BGSU Kappa Kappa Gamma 5K

This morning I took part in a benefit run at my school (Bowling Green State University). I've been training for an upcoming half marathon (the Glass City 1/2 Marathon in April) so this was a great warm-up to competitive running. Event-wise the setup was rather simple with one check in table. Participants had to sign in and sign a liability waiver (hopefully no one would sue if they fell on a 5k route, but the possibility is there apparently). One nice thing they had was a set up for pre-race water. Always important to hydrate PRIOR to the race. I do think the registration fee of $15 pre-event and $20 day of was a bit steep. While the money was going to a good cause, one can only hope to receive something besides the right to run in an event. The staging of the race was fine with the volunteers from the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority indicating the route with giant green arrows. My personal goal was to break 21-minutes as I am not a "speed" runner. The length was obviously doable and I finished with a time of just over 20 minutes. After the race, there was some food available, but I didn't see any vegetarian options so I grabbed a water and headed out. It is good to see how many people would come out for a Sunday morning run at the college age to support a good cause. Personally achieved my goal while helping out.
