I have had this idea for a couple days now and thought it would be a good idea to throw it out to the masses. The proposal would be for an initiative called "Refurbished Tees" (or RefurbishT, not sure which looks better!). Basically, the process would involve only a few independent companies and vendors, but the impact could be great. For this example, we will use Goodwill. Members of the "Refurbished Tees" company would go to select Goodwill stores and pick out the most reasonable shirts. They would look for a combination of price, quality and design of the t-shirts. Once these purchases have been made (which will automatically support the efforts of Goodwill), the shirts will be taken to a screen printing company. This company would then print a graphic (possibly slogans: "You are what you wear", or a design) on the reverse side of the t-shirt. What this will create is a "washed-out" look for the t-shirt with the original design coming through the front in combination with a modern and fashionable design on the front.
Besides the fashion element which could be worked on, the basic premise of this idea supports many different goals.
1.) Goodwill receives the payment for the shirt
2.) We can still pay the screen printers for the designs (boost the economy!)
3.) Resale of the "Refurbished Tees" will be able to fund any number of causes
I know I would buy a shirt which had this kind of story. Imagine how many people bought in to the "Product (RED)" campaign. This is very similar, but most of the proceeds would go to benefit local causes and American issues.
Please comment on this or contact me with any reaction to this idea. If this exists in some shape I would love to know about it. If you are interested in helping with making this happen!
Thanks for reading.
Keep smiling...
